Young Horse Training

We currently have available openings for young horse training as we enter the month of April 2007.

Young horses (age 3 or 4) will be taught the following:

proper ground manners

stand quietly for grooming (including bathing)

work on the longe line and work to voice commands on the longe line

walk, trot and canter under saddle

taught to free jump

All training is done under the supervision of owner, Deborah Borra.  We adhere to the Swedish training methods which have evolved over the past 100 years.  We find this very methodical education produces the best results with young horses to take them confidently into their future sport discipline of owner's choice.

In our experience, it generally takes a minimum of three months to achieve the above to where the horse is confident with it's new skills and ready to return to the owner for further training under direction of their own trainer.  Some horses may take a bit longer than three months.  We provide a monthly report to the owner describing how the training has progressed and you may decide at the end of the first three months if you wish for your horse to remain in our program longer or to return home.

Owners are encouraged to come and observe the ongoing training (discounted room rates are available on the farm for boarders) during the training sessions to fully understand how the horse is being trained.  Owners are also encouraged to watch the older horses in work being ridden under saddle.

Lessons with your young horse are available after the initial three month training period with our resident trainer prior to the horse returning home.

All horses are provided with a stall and daily turnout (grass) in addition to our regular feeding schedule.  Any supplements you wish are available at an additional cost.  Fees are based on group turnout for socialization.  If you prefer private turnout, it is available at an additional cost.  Group turnouts are approximately 10 to 20 acres each in size.

Fee for training and board is currently $800.00 per month during the 2007 Spring/Summer season.

Feel free to call to discuss arrangements and booking a reservation for your horse.
